TUSKS TORONTO

After playing Canadian Music Week last year, London resident Emily Underhill, aka Tusks, found herself in a loft apartment in downtown Toronto reflecting on the dark and damaging phase of relationships taking a turn for the worst. Based on a demo of reverb-heavy strings and Underhill’s dreamy voice, ‘Toronto’ developed over time into a brooding, layered production with tribal drums, crashing cymbals and breathtaking vocals, with just a smidge of folk sensitivity. Co-produced with Brett Cox (known for his work with Jack Garratt), ‘Toronto’ is saturated in the moving ambience of acts like London Grammar and the brutal desolation akin to Daughter. Without a doubt, Tusks has turned out an incredible piece of tumultuous indie-pop that will stir up even the most repressed of emotions. - HT
